JUSTIFICATION
Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Education and Examination Regulation
"Education period and additional exams
ARTICLE 6 – (Title amended: R.G. 20/05/2018-30426)
(1) Students, excluding the one-year foreign language preparatory class, starting from the semester in which they are enrolled in the program, regardless of whether they register for each semester or not, must complete the associate degree programs with a duration of two years within a maximum of four years, and the bachelor's degree programs with a duration of four years within a maximum of seven years, the bachelor's degree programs with a duration of five years within a maximum of eight years, and the bachelor's degree programs with a duration of six years within a maximum of nine years. The periods of leave and registration suspension are not taken into account in the calculation of the maximum education period. The maximum education periods are calculated according to the provisions of Law No. 2547."
(2) The following principles apply to students who cannot complete their education at the end of the maximum education periods:
a) At the end of the maximum education period, two additional exam rights are given to the final semester students for all the courses they failed by fulfilling the attendance requirement, regardless of the number of courses. (Amended: R.G.10/07/2019-30827) At the end of the two additional exams, students who cannot reduce the number of courses they need to pass to graduate, including the University common elective courses in the program, to five, including the courses they have never taken and the courses they have not fulfilled the attendance requirement, will be dismissed from the University.
b) One of the two additional exam rights is used after the end of the spring semester exams, and the other is used before the start of the next academic year. The exams are held between the dates specified in the academic calendar. The date, place, and time of the exam are determined by the relevant unit's administrative board. Students who pass these exams are considered successful without requiring a midterm exam grade and are processed according to the principles in Article 23 and included in the weighted grade point average (GPA).
c) At the end of the two additional exams, final year students who reduce the total number of courses they need to pass to graduate, including the courses they have never taken and the courses they have not fulfilled the attendance requirement, to a maximum of five, are given an additional three semesters.
ç) Final year students who need to pass a maximum of five courses to graduate, including the courses they have never taken and the courses they have not fulfilled the attendance requirement, without using the additional exam right at the end of the maximum education period, are given an additional four semesters.
d) Students in the situations described in (c) and (ç) enter the midterm, end-of-semester, and make-up exams held during the additional periods and continue to pay the student contribution fee/tuition fee during this period.
e) Final year students who fail one course at the end of the maximum education period or additional exams are given unlimited exam rights without benefiting from student rights. During this period, they can take the midterm, end-of-semester, make-up, and single course exams.
f) Final year students who have completed the required credits for graduation and passed all courses but cannot graduate due to a GPA below 2.00 are given unlimited exam rights to raise their weighted grade point average. Attendance is not required for courses other than practical, applied, and previously not taken courses.
g) Students can use the unlimited exam right only by fulfilling the attendance requirement of the course. Students with the right to use the unlimited exam right must pay the student contribution fee/tuition fee per course and register for the course on the dates specified in the academic calendar. However, these students cannot benefit from other student rights except for the exam right. Students who do not take the exams held for three consecutive academic years, either consecutively or intermittently, are considered to have waived their unlimited exam right and are dismissed from the University."
